TALLAHASSEE AREA SHETLAND SHEEPDOG ASSOCIATION GENERAL MEETING
April 11, 2005

CALL TO ORDER:

TALLAHASSEE AREA SHETLAND SHEEPDOG ASSOCIATION BOARD AND GENERAL COMBINED MEETING April 11, 2005.

CALL TO ORDER:

The Tallahassee Area Shetland Sheepdog Association General Meeting was called to order at 7:25 PM by Ginny Cavallaro, President, at the first floor activities room at the Tallahassee Senior Center.

Present were: Ginny Cavallaro, Margie Ferqueron, Susan Carol Losh, Carla Maynor, Celeste Paquette, and Babs Stewart Lori Schwartz-Thompson was a guest.

OLD BUSINESS:

MINUTES:

The March 21 minutes were accepted as read.

TREASURER’S REPORT:

The Treasurer’s report for April was accepted as stated below and distributed at the meeting:

Rescue Fund $835.28
Club Fund $2307.78
Total $3143.06

We have not received additional bills for the 2005 Shows.

Email Babs for more information at: stewartb@mail.leon.k12.fl.us

SHOWS:

2006: We have judges for the Saturday Specialty. We need judges for both 2007 Specialties. We need  to get started on the 2006 trophies. Ginny, Bill and Ruth will attend ASSA and look out for ideas while they are there. Margie will head the committee for trophies along with a “knowledgeable dog person”.

Ginny has the forms for the 2006 Shows. Ginny is Show Chair and Bill will help with the 2006 Shows as well

It appears that our judges for next year will only judge Shelties. This means that we could pay a lot: air fare, hotel, food, honorarium without being able to share the cost with other clubs. Ginny will see both Thompsons (judging the 2006 shows) at ASSA and will find out more.

FLORIDA ASSOCIATION OF KENNEL CLUBS:

Ginny sent information about our local breeders to the FAKC.

SHELTIE FESTIVAL:

Sheila was unable to make today’s meeting. However, she has sent in additional information by email:

Our match/party/seminar will be held on Saturday, May 7 at Beech Tree Farm. The address is l80 Bluebird East, Monticello, FL. 32344. Phone number is 997-8103 or 528 6697.

Our judge is Millie Meyers, collie breeder of note and licensed AKC judge of both collies and shelties. After the judging and lunch, she will give a talk on breed type and structure and how to set these qualities in a bloodline.
There will be classes for puppies (2-4mos, 4-6 mos, 6-9mos 9-12 mos) juniors (12-18 mos) and adults in males and females plus separate classes for spayed/neutered pets and rescue dogs. There will also be classes for other herding breeds and a best in match adult and puppy and overall best.

The club will provide hamburgers and hotdogs at $1.50 each and sodas at $.50. Please bring a covered dish or anything else which will go with the hamburgers and hotdogs.

Also bring items for our white elephant flea sale. This is an opportunity to clean out your dog closets and sell any dog items you no longer need. The club will ask 10% of your selling price which will go into our rescue fund.

NEW BUSINESS:

BOARD MEMBER:

We discussed possibilities to fill the seat on the Board that was vacated by Randi Cohen. Melanie Mitchell was nominated and elected by acclamation (subject, of course, to her acceptance). Susan will contact Melanie. (NOTE: Melanie accepted the Board Seat and is now our newest Board Member. Congratulations!)

SEMINAR POSSIBILITIES:

We passed around information about the Small Animal Clinic at University of Florida. Drs. Verstegen and Onelin give seminars on canine reproduction. Their telephone number is: 352-392-4700.

Another possibility is a training seminar called “Dog Shows for Dummies” that would help novices understand what goes on in the ring, what the various classes mean, championships, and different kinds of dog shows.

TAX-FREE NUMBER:

Celeste will look further into our applying for a tax-free number. Her understanding is that receiving same depends a lot on the Club Mission. For example, Rescue is OK and probably so are Educational Events about the breed. Celeste will report more about this at our June meeting and Ginny will see if she can pick up further information at ASSA.

NEXT MEETING:

Our next meeting is planned for Monday, May 16 at the Tallahassee Senior Center. The General Meeting is at 7:30.

WEBSITE:

Remember our Home Page listed below.

Respectfully submitted,
